Basque in a voice-over brief
Basque has no known relatives among living languages. It uses ergative grammar and a verb that can agree with subject, object and indirect object. The unified standard, Euskara Batua, was created in the 1960s and is used in schools and media. Dialects such as Bizkaian and Gipuzkoan differ from it. A brief states the standard or dialect and the audience.
Accent and direction notes
What our director listens for in a Basque session.
Unrelated to Spanish and French
Basque has its own grammar and word order, so Spanish scripts cannot be read in it.
Standard and dialect
Euskara Batua is the written standard. Speech varies by area.
Long words
Words with many suffixes need careful pace.
What casting decides in Basque
Standard or local
Public content uses the standard; local ads may use local speech.
Basque and Spanish pairs
Most projects run in both.
How we work
Casting
We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.
Direction
A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.
Delivery
Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.
What decides the price
No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.
