Javanese in a voice-over brief

Javanese has speech levels, called ngoko, madya and krama, which change vocabulary according to how much respect the speaker shows. Choosing the wrong level sounds rude or comic. Javanese is written in Latin letters today, with the traditional script mostly seen in heritage uses. A brief states the level, the region, such as Yogyakarta or East Java, and whether Indonesian versions will be recorded.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Javanese session.

  1. Speech levels

Javanese changes vocabulary with the respect due to the listener. The brief names the level.

  2. Latin script on screen

Most written Javanese today uses Latin letters.

  3. Beside Indonesian

    Many campaigns run in both.

What casting decides in Javanese

  • Javanese or Indonesian

    Local ads want Javanese.

  • Speech level

    We agree it first.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.
