Setswana in a voice-over brief

Setswana belongs to the Sotho-Tswana group and is written in Latin letters. Its words carry noun-class prefixes that must agree across a sentence, so a script translated word for word from English often reads awkwardly even when each word is right. The language is national in Botswana and also spoken in parts of South Africa, where usage and spelling can differ slightly. Before recording we ask which country the audience lives in, whether the tone should be formal, as in public notices, or conversational, as on radio, and which English terms should stay in English.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.

Use and territory
