Burmese in a voice-over brief

Burmese is written in a round script of its own and is tonal. Spoken and literary forms differ a good deal, with formal writing using vocabulary rarely heard in conversation. The language is spoken across Myanmar, with regional accents and with other languages beside it in the border areas. Telecoms, health agencies and aid programmes are typical clients. A brief states the register and the audience, and a native reviewer checks the script before it is recorded.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Burmese session.

  1. A tonal language

    Tones change meaning.

  2. Spoken against literary

    Formal Burmese differs from speech.

  3. Round script

Scripts arrive in Burmese letters and are proofed by a native reader.

What casting decides in Burmese

  • Standard or regional

    Broadcast uses the Yangon standard.

  • Register

    Public notices are formal.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.
