What Finnish voice-over is hired for

  • Finland

Standard Finnish is the default for national advertising, public information and corporate film.

  • Swedish-speaking Finns

A small but active minority expects services in Swedish. This is a separate request from Finnish.

  • Technology and gaming

Finland’s tech and games companies work in English and localise into Finnish for local players.

Typical projects

  • Consumer brands advertising in Finland
  • Gaming and software companies localising into Finnish
  • Public bodies and utilities informing residents
  • Industrial firms voicing safety and corporate films

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Finnish session.

  1. Not related to Swedish

Finnish belongs to the Uralic family and shares little with Scandinavian languages. A Swedish voice cannot cover it.

  2. Cases instead of prepositions

Finnish changes word endings through many grammatical cases, so a brand name inside a sentence often needs an ending. We check how each name reads.

  3. Long compounds

Words are built by joining others, so long words are normal. We check the actor’s pace on them.

  4. Stress on the first syllable

Finnish stress is fixed. A foreign name in a Finnish sentence sounds odd if it keeps its original stress.

What casting decides in Finnish

  • Reserved or warm

Finnish audiences value honesty and restraint. We shortlist voices that sound sincere and not salesy.

  • Neutral or regional

A neutral Helsinki-leaning voice suits national work. Regional accents are used for character.

  • Finnish or Swedish

For the Swedish-speaking minority, we cast a Finland-Swedish voice.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.

Length
Word count or running time of the finished audio.
Use and territory
Internal, online or broadcast; where it runs and for how long.
Voice
Some languages and voice profiles are scarcer than others.
Picture and files
Recording to timecode, splitting and naming add work.

Finnish voice-over questions

Is Finnish similar to Swedish?

No. They belong to different language families. Finland has Swedish-speaking citizens, but Finnish is a language of its own.

How do you handle brand names in Finnish?

We agree how each name sounds and takes endings in a sentence before recording.

Do you cover Swedish-speaking Finns?

Yes. Ask for Finland-Swedish and we cast a voice from there.

Who reviews the Finnish script?

A native reviewer checks the delivery before it reaches you.

Four questions. A draft script or a word count is enough; you get a written quote before anything is recorded.
