Persian in a voice-over brief

Persian, or Farsi, is the language of Iran and is closely related to Dari in Afghanistan and Tajik in Tajikistan. The Persian script runs from right to left, and short vowels are not usually written. Classical poetry has its own rhythms. Diaspora communities in Los Angeles, London and Toronto form a large audience. A brief states the audience, the register and whether the text follows Iranian spelling.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Persian session.

  1. Formal and spoken registers

Spoken Persian differs from the written form. Scripts say which the actor should read.

  2. Right-to-left script

Scripts and on-screen text run right to left.

  3. Poetry

Classical lines have set rhythms and demand a trained reader.

What casting decides in Persian

Documentary is formal; ads are conversational.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.
