Sami in a voice-over brief

Sámi languages are spoken in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, and they are not mutually intelligible across the whole group. Northern Sámi is the largest, while others such as Lule and South Sámi have small communities. Public broadcasters, schools and parliaments produce content in them. A brief names the exact language, the country and the register, and we confirm whether a voice is available before quoting.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Sami session.

  1. A group of languages

Northern Sami is the largest; others have few speakers.

  2. Small voice pool

    Availability is confirmed before quoting.

  3. Borders

    Speakers live in several countries.

What casting decides in Sami

  • Which Sami language

We confirm availability for your language.

  • Register

    Public information is formal.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.

Length
Word count or running time of the finished audio.
Use and territory
Internal, online or broadcast; where it runs and for how long.
Voice
Some languages and voice profiles are scarcer than others.
