Tamil in a voice-over brief

Tamil is a classical Dravidian language with a script of its own and one of the longest literary traditions in the world. Spoken Tamil differs markedly from the formal literary form, and Tamil in Sri Lanka and Singapore has its own words. Cinema and television are strong in Tamil Nadu. A brief states the country, the register and the treatment of English words.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Tamil session.

  1. Spoken against written

Formal Tamil differs from speech. Scripts say which the actor reads.

  2. Country differences

Indian, Sri Lankan and Singapore speech differ.

  3. Its own script

Tamil has a script of its own, which a native reader proofs.

What casting decides in Tamil

  • Which country

    We cast per audience.

  • Register

Film is expressive; public notices are formal.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.

Length
Word count or running time of the finished audio.
Use and territory
