Latvian in a voice-over brief

Latvian is a Baltic language with a rich system of cases, so every noun changes its ending depending on its role in the sentence. That makes translated scripts risky: one wrong ending is obvious to any listener. It has pitch accents and long and short vowels that a native speaker produces without thinking. Latvia is bilingual in practice, with a large Russian-speaking audience, so many campaigns run in both languages. We check cases and stress with a native reviewer and agree how English brand names should sound.

Accent and direction notes

What our director listens for in a Latvian session.

  1. Tones

Latvian has pitch accents that change meaning.

  2. Cases

Nouns decline, so translated scripts need a native pass.

  3. Related to Lithuanian

    Related but not mutually intelligible.

What casting decides in Latvian

  • Latvian or Russian

    We confirm the audience.

  • Register

    Public notices are formal.

How we work

  1. Casting

We shortlist voices for your language, audience and tone, and explain the difference between them. You choose, and approve a written quote.

  2. Direction

A director runs the session against your brief: meaning, pace and every agreed pronunciation. You can listen in remotely.

  3. Delivery

Every file is checked against the script word by word and technically, then delivered in your format and naming.

What decides the price

No price list: every quote is written for your project and states usage and the delivery date.

Use and territory
