Recording voice over in the United States

This page is about producing in the US: where talent record, how sessions are run across time zones, and what union status means for your budget. If what you need is guidance on the accent itself, which regional voice suits which audience and how American scripts differ, that sits on American English voice over.

Regional casting we handle

  • General American, the national broadcast standard
  • Southern, from soft Virginia to broad Texas
  • New York and the Northeast
  • Midwestern and Great Lakes
  • West Coast and Pacific Northwest
  • US Spanish and bilingual talent for Hispanic market work

Cities with their own talent pools

Two US cities are worth naming separately because the depth of talent there changes what is possible. Los Angeles holds the world's deepest concentration of animation, games and trailer specialists. New York carries the advertising, broadcast and theatre pool, plus the accent itself when a brief genuinely wants it.

How sessions work

Our US talent record in broadcast-standard studios, whether professional facilities or properly treated private studios, and we direct remotely so you can attend a session from anywhere. Time zones are managed on our side: you brief in your working hours and we schedule against the talent's. For a client in Europe that usually means a script sent in the afternoon is recorded overnight and waiting the next morning.

Union and non-union

Some US projects require union talent, most do not. The distinction affects session fees, usage structure and how residuals work, and it is much cheaper to settle before booking than to unwind afterwards. We work with both and will tell you which applies to your project and what it means for cost, before you commit.

The US Spanish market

Around one in five people in the United States speaks Spanish at home. Reaching them well is a casting decision rather than a translation decision: neutral Latin American Spanish works for national campaigns, while regional Mexican, Caribbean or Central American Spanish works better for specific markets. We advise on which fits your audience and can cast bilingual talent when the same voice has to carry both versions.
