What podcast voice over involves

Most podcasts are hosted by the people whose show it is, and that is as it should be. Voice over enters at the production layer: the intro that establishes the show, the sponsor read, the outro, and increasingly the fully narrated episode where the format is closer to audio documentary than conversation.

The intro does more work than anything else in a podcast. It is the same eight to fifteen seconds every episode, so listeners hear it hundreds of times. It has to sound professional without becoming irritating on the fiftieth hearing.

Where we come in

  • Show intros, outros and segment stings
  • Host-read and announcer-read sponsor spots
  • Fully narrated and scripted episodes
  • Trailers and season launch promos
  • Translated editions of an existing show

Mastering to podcast standards

Podcast platforms normalise loudness, and audio that ignores this comes out quiet and thin against everything else in the listener's feed. We master to the loudness targets the major platforms apply, typically around minus 16 LUFS for stereo, and keep the intro consistent with the body of the episode so there is no jump in level when the host starts talking.

Turning written content into a show

A growing number of clients come with existing written material, a newsletter, a research report, an internal briefing, and want it as audio. That is an adaptation job before it is a recording job. Written prose read aloud verbatim sounds wrong, because sentence structures that work on the page do not work in the ear. We adapt the copy for listening first, then record it.

Translated editions

Taking a show into other languages means adapting the script and casting a native voice per market, not subtitling. We keep the same intro structure and sonic identity across languages so the show is recognisable wherever it is heard.

Send us the script or the source material and we will quote the full production.
