What audio editing covers

Recording is roughly half of a finished voice track. The other half is editing: removing noise, tightening pace, evening out levels, taking out breaths and mouth sounds that distract, and choosing between takes line by line.

Done well it is invisible. Listeners do not notice good editing, they only notice its absence, in the form of audio that sounds tiring even when the voice itself is good.

• Pace editing, adjusting pauses without sounding clipped

Consistency across long projects

On an audiobook or a course recorded across many sessions, the hardest thing is making session twelve sound like session one. We work to a fixed processing chain per project and check consistency across the whole set rather than file by file, so there is no audible shift when a listener moves between chapters.

Mastering to the right standard

Different destinations require different loudness targets. Broadcast, podcast platforms, audiobook retailers and telephony systems all have their own specifications, and audio mastered for one is wrong for another. Tell us where the audio is going and we master to that target.

Working with your own recordings

You do not have to record with us to use this. If you have material recorded in-house, by a client, or on location, send it and we will tell you honestly what can be rescued and what cannot before you commit to anything.
